CoP Final Lecture

Resolving your research project

- Use eStudio for structure of essay.
- 'Academic Honesty' using quotes to back up how I've researched stuff
- Demonstrate a critical knowledge: Assess validity, strengths, weaknesses of references, processes and practices etc. --> Examples of illustration maybe
- Write about my work in dissertation: Synthesis, critical analysis
- Evidence sustained engagement and deep learning

- Don't just focus on ILOs though, focus on learning
- Don't just accept ideas and memorise facts
- Form own opinions
- Don't assume all quotes are correct. Critique and challenge them.
- Look at the wider context
- Don't just mention things, e.g. theories, without understanding what they are.

Deep learning approach:
- Independent engagement
- Critical & thoughtful
- My opinion
- Relates ideas to own experiences / knowledge
- See big picture
- Evidence relates to conclusions
- Examine logic
- Ongoing prep & reflection --> commitment to the investigation

Evidence deep learning
- Evidence thought processes and decisions
- Don't assume work alone evidences this
- Keep BLOGGING
- Show deep learning through practical, design boards, blog & investigation

Within writing:
- Consider specialist / technical terminology / jargon - using it and using it correctly.
--> Deep learning is demonstrated through this use
- Writing analytical arguments based on research
- Be precise
- Avoid repetition
- Mix long & short sentences. Have variation.
- Uncertainty? use 'may','might', 'could' or 'potentially'
- Avoid abbreviations / contractions / slang / vague / conversational terms
- Don't write in the first person

START WRITING
Try to get 3000 words for 10/11
- Format it now
- 1.5 line spacing
- 12pt text
- Standard font
- Page numbers
-Quotes longer than 2 lines should be separated from the text by a line & indented

9 WEEKS UNTIL DISSERTATION PRINTING

10 WEEKS UNTIL DEADLINE

- How much have I achieved?
- Have I got as far as I wanted?
- What can I achieve in the next 10 weeks?

- Be proactive
- Avoid negativity
- Work through the process
- Identify issues
- What barriers?
- What can I do?
- DO IT.
