Writing Dissertation

When I've been writing the first bits of my dissertation, I've been really struggling trying to write about everything that I've read. I think that my methods of researching have been too open ended. I haven't been selective enough and have consistently opened more and more pathways.

From this point forward I'm going to try to stop reading so much and choose from what I've already learnt / made notes from / read.

The problem on a few occasions was that I found that I could talk about a topic, but when it came to writing about it I had to read up on it again to make sure I had all my facts right.

I'm concerned that my essay is ranting. I need to make sure I'm writing enough to inform the audience without waffling on for far too long. I've been struggling to curb it.

Restricting my approach:
- I've bullet pointed main topics and trying to elaborate on these
- Adding in quotes after trying to write my points
- Trying not to get distracted reading more information than I need to

It's sinking in that I really should have been more specific with my research up until this point.
I know we were told to write down page numbers for quotes and reference early, but of course I didn't.

From this point forward, when writing the 3rd chapter of my essay, I'll:
- Make notes of quotes / pages / references as and when I come across them
- Bullet point first and build the essay around my framework

Also I need to write my question out and stick it on my wall so that I stay on track.
